CME Committee

Apply for CME points for your meeting

Online:

Since January 2008 there is a common internet platform for direct online application to EACCME (www.eaccme.e). On this website, the organizer fills in the application-form that will be sent by EACCME to the EBO-CME committee as well as the National Authority of the country where the meeting/congress/course will take place. These two accreditation bodies will evaluate the application and provide the accurate number of CME points. EACCME will collect the evaluation and send the final accreditation to the organizer.

Time requirements:

The organizer should send the application at the earliest possible time, but not before the final programme of the meeting is officially available. The process of evaluation and accreditation may take up to one month.

Fees:

The fees depend on the expected number of participants at the meeting and arise from the three accrediting bodies.

Conflict of interest:

The organizer has to give and sign a clear statement on conflict of interest

Evaluation of quality:

The organizer has to give the opportunity to the participants to give an evaluation of the activity by providing MCQ at the end of the meeting.
These MCQ should be sent via mail to the EBO-CME committee for evaluation.

European CME accreditation for meetings and congresses

All international as well as national congresses, meetings, courses and wet-labs may be eligible for obtaining European CME points.

There are three bodies responsible for the control of quality of CME in Europe:
1) the European Accreditation Council for Continuous Medical Education (EACCME)
2) the European Board of Ophthalmology CME committee (EBO-CME)
3) the National Authority (NA).

The EACCME, a section of the UEMS (Union européenne des médecins specialists), acts as an “umbrella organisation” for all medical specialities and makes the link between the two accrediting bodies, the EBO-CME and the NA.

An agreement is signed between EACCME and the AMA (American Medical Association) providing a mutual recognition of CME points between Europe and the USA.
