CRITERIA TO BE AN EBO EXAMINER

 

A – Characteristics:

 

To be Specialist in Ophthalmology for at least 5 years (Teachers who have 3 years experience in a teaching center may be offered the opportunity to attend the exam as observer rather than examiner).

To be practicing or have been trained in a full or associate member state of the EBO

To be currently practicing Ophthalmology and be involved in teaching/training of ophthalmology residents (University hospital/ general hospital/ private practice)

To master the language chosen for the examination

To be able to examine in at least one of the main topics of the Viva Voce examination

To accept to send 5 MCQs before the examination to the secure website of the EBO

 

 

B - The Viva Voce examination:

 

1-Subjects of the questions:

From the topics of the curriculum

Data validated from evidence based medicine and not personal results

Assessment of the candidate ability to recognize and describe signs rather than solely making the diagnosis

To assess the knowledge with focus on the application of the knowledge in current practice


2-Technique of oral examination:

No absolute failure in case of failure to answer the first question:  if a candidate fails to answer one question, gently move to another.

As interactive as possible: clinical cases (Powerpoint case and/or photographs are recommended).

Preparing four sets of questions, building up degree of difficulty.

Keep the same question set for one round of candidates, i.e. ask the same questions to each candidate in one round. 

Complete change of the set of questions between the rounds.

Discussion between both examiners to agree on the final mark at the end of the round (to compare the answers from the four candidates)
